CMP draft to be finalised on Friday

The five-member committee constituted to draft the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the coalition government has decided to finalise its draft, which will incorporate writing off farm loans borrowed from co-operative banks, on Friday.

The committee, which held its second meeting on Monday, discussed various promises made by the two parties in the run-up to the Assembly polls. Former Union Minister and chairman of Congress Manifesto Committee M. Veerappa Moily told presspersons that the committee would hold its final meeting on Friday to finalise its draft. The CMP would be implemented during the next five-year period, he said.

Except Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar, all members of the panel attended the meeting. Mr. Shivakumar had to attend a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on the Cauvery water-sharing issue.

The committee will submit the draft of the CMP to the coordination committee panel, headed by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, for approval. At the first meeting of the panel, held on Wednesday last, it was decided to incorporate in the draft waiver of farm loans borrowed from co-operative banks, maternity pension to women from BPL families, and increase in old age pension.
