Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday inaugurated the JSS Hospital at Chamarajanagar and lauded the social work being undertaken by the Suttur Mutt in health and education.
The new 100-bed hospital will cater to the large rural hinterland in and around Chamarajanagar and has been established at a cost of Rs. 25 crore.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said the contribution of the mutts in shoring up medical and educational facilities in the State, was immense.
In this context, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the State government had embarked on setting up medical colleges across various districts as the teaching hospitals affiliated to these colleges, would benefit the rural populace who can avail themselves of the facilities offered by the teaching hospitals.
The new hospital is spread over 5,700 sq m and has 13 specialities and 5 super specialities besides state-of-the-art laboratories, operation theatres, CT scan and X-ray, facilities for dialysis, physiotherapy, ICU, Surgical ICU, and neonatal ICU care facilities, among others.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations of the JSS College in the town and said that more than 1,00,000 students were getting educated in the institutions run by the JSS throughout the State and even abroad and it was strengthening the government’s efforts in this direction.
Education was vital for women for their social and economic emancipation and the government had launched various programmes to achieve it, said Mr. Siddaramaiah.
Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, Chamarajanagar district in charge Minister U.T. Khader, R. Dhruvanarayan, MP, and others were present. Later, the Chief Minister participated in the Bhagiratha Jayanti organised at Nanjangud.
