Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said the government had sent reservation details for the gram panchayat (GP) elections to the State Election Commission (SEC).

Speaking to presspersons here, the Chief Minister said 50 per cent of the seats in the gram panchayat polls would be reserved for women.

NH status

Mr. Siddaramaiah said the Centre had accorded the National Highway (NH) status to Bengaluru-Mysuru Road and added that his government would extend all assistance to develop the stretch into a six-lane expressway.

Bypasses have to be constructed in important cities along the corridor when the highway is widened, and the Public Works Department (PWD) will look into those aspects, he added. The Chief Minister later received grievances from the waiting public at his residence.

The Chief Minister held a meeting with MLAs, MLCs and chairpersons of boards and corporations and party leaders at a hotel here on Sunday afternoon.

It was closed-door meeting, but it is significant in the light of the upcoming polls to the gram panchayats. Minister for Cooperation H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, and Tanveer Sait, MLA, were present.
