May Day observed all over district
Processions and meetings marked May Day celebrations at various places in the district. Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and several other organisations organised the programmes at Kolar, KGF and other places.
Addressing a public meeting organised by CITU-affiliated unions at Kolar, CITU district unit honorary president Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy said a bandh will be observed in the district against the Centre’s decision to privatise Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) located at KGF.
“While the BJP government closed down mining operations of BGML more than one-and-a-half decade ago, the same government is now planning to privatise BEML, the other public sector industry in the district”, he said. Fighting against this would be this May Day’s resolution of the working class in the district. The bandh date will be announced later, he added.
Inaugurating the public meeting, CITU State unit secretary K. Mahantesh called upon workers to unite and wage a struggle against the “anti-worker and anti-poor policies” of the Modi government.
Bank Employees Federation of India leader H.B. Krishnappa, and JMS State president V. Geetha were present.
