People’s anger against Vijayapura city MLA Makbul Bagwan is growing, even as citizens are staging protests seeking water supply.

Anguish against city MLA from the Congress Makbul Bagwan is growing with citizens and organisations starting to file missing person complaints with the police.

The primary reason for their anger is the absence of the MLA when the city is facing acute water shortage with people being forced to buy water.

Citizens who have been waiting for the MLA to make efforts to address the issue have only met with disappointment.

Dismayed by his sheer negligence, several individuals and organisations are seeking police help to “trace the MLA”.

Ramesh Bidanur, a businessman, has filed a missing person complaint with Adarsha Nagar Police urging the police to find the MLA.

The district unit of the BJP also tried to file a similar complaint with Gandhi Chowk Police. However, the police refused to take such a complaint stating that it was politically motivated.

Left with no choice, the BJP members dropped their complaint in the suggestion/complaint box kept outside the police station.

A few days ago, Vishwanath Bhavi, activist and president of Neeru Beku Samiti, also urged the district administration to find the MLA who, he says, is absconding when the city is facing drinking water problem. “We have never had such an irresponsible MLA who has kept himself completely away from the people when the city is reeling under a water crisis,” Mr. Bidanur said.

The anguish of the people appears to be justified as the MLA has neither called a press conference nor issued even a statement on the water situation.

The officials too said that he had not convened a meeting or attended one related to the crisis.

Amid this, protests continued in many parts of the city where people blocked roads demanding water supply.

Meanwhile, citizens in Jama Masjid and Station Road areas staged a protest by blocking the road near Gol Gumbaz demanding water release.
