Citizens forums in all wards favoured

The Urban Development Department is in favour of constituting citizens forums in all wards of the city corporations to ensure transparency in the expenditure incurred by the authorities.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the department would encourage formation of citizens forums in all wards of the city corporations of the State to ensure better quality of works and monitoring of money spent by corporation officials. Ward committees would be formed in all city corporations, he said.

CBI probe

The State government will soon submit a proposal to the Union government seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged embezzlement of funds in the Mandya Urban Development Authority and the Ramanagaram-Channapatna Urban Development Authority.

He said that several banks were involved in the alleged irregularities of funds in the two urban development authorities. The Criminal Investigation Department had conducted a probe into the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 5 crore by the Mandya Urban Development Authority.

The issue was debated widely in the legislature and the Opposition, led by the Janata Dal(S), demanded that a CBI probe be instituted in the matter.
