Experts in the field of education have exhorted students to choose the right course that interests them to pursue a career of their choice to emerge successful in life.
They were speaking at The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling session, held at Basavarajeshwari Public School and College here on Saturday. The session is being held here for the fourth consecutive year.
Dr. S. Jayanna, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya Univeristy, who inaugurated the session, was all praise for The Hindu for organising the programme by inviting experts in various fields for the benefit of students and parents.
“Your education up to PU or Class 12 was of the level of understanding. After that you entered a crucial stage. Now, you need to comprehend what you learn and understand. For that you have to hone the necessary skills and inculcate a good attitude to gain knowledge and emerge successful,” he said.
As usual, the highlight of the event was an informative presentation by Ameen Muddasar, general education expert, on the avenues open to students and a lecture on the process of online counselling by S.G. Gadag, an official from the Karnataka Examinations Authority.
Mr. Muddasar, with his friendly and witty interaction, opened the world of opportunities available to students to pursue their professional career. He also stressied the need for students to assess their capabilities while exploring their preferred courses and have the right aptitude before taking a firm decision.
Mr. Gadag, in a simple way, explained the procedures to be followed during online counselling and told the students to take extra care while giving options. Dr. Vidyadhar Kinhal, principal, Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science; Prithviraj, deputy director, Ballari Institute of Technology and Management; and Siddarameshwar Gowda, Chartered Accountant, spoke about the scope and opportunities for students pursuing medicine, engineering and Chartered Accountancy. M. Shivaraj, senior manager, State Bank of India, spoke about the education loan facilities.
During the nearly four-hour session, over 450 students and parents were seen listening in rapt attention to the experts. ‘The Nxt Step’, an informative book brought out by The Hindu EducationPlus, to guide students to make an informed choice about their careers, was distributed for free among the participants.
S.J.V. Mahipal, chairman of BPSC, and Harikumar, principal BPSC, were prominent among others present.
