To keep children away from the quarrel of their parents, who come to the station to resolve their misunderstandings, the district administration has set up a child-friendly environment park at the Lashkar police station in the city.
Most couples knowingly or unknowingly bring their children to the police station unmindful of the possible negative impact of their misunderstanding on their children.
This is a joint effort of the Police Department, the Women and Child Development Department and the Nirmiti Kendra to create a child-friendly environment at the rear side of the police station.
The children of couples, who come to the police station, will not be allowed to go inside the station with their parents and they will be asked to play in the park.
According to a senior official, it is a common scene at the police station that parents use verbal aggression and sometimes get physical.
Seeing this, some children may become distraught, worried, anxious and hopeless, the officer said, adding that the police had many times sent out the children and prevented them from witnessing their parents’ quarrels.
Children can play there, read comic books there and the officer said that the department was planning to organise open house programme on Thursdays.
Besides this it is also planned to exhibit shows.
The official noted that the Juvenile Justice Act of 2006 also recommended providing a congenial atmosphere to children in need of care and protection and also children in conflict with law.
The district administration plans to get it inaugurated soon after the return of the Commissioner of Mysuru City Police, Dayananda.
