Alert volunteers of the Child Line and District Child Protection Unit stopped a marriage arranged between a 15-year-old girl and a 23-year-old man at Sulepet village in Chincholli taluk in Kalaburagi district on Saturday.

The officials received information that the girl was to be married off to Kiran of Tajlapur village in Bidar district on Sunday at the Veerabhadreshwara temple in Sulepet. A team of officials visited the village along with the police on Saturday night and stopped the marriage by explaining the legal impediments and the consequences of violating Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

CWC member Vittal Chikkani said the team advised the parents of bridegroom to conduct the marriage only after the girl complete 18 years. Written statement was obtained from both the parents that they would not continue with the marriage proposal.
