A three-year-old boy who went chasing a ball, accidentally fell into a pit that was filled with stormwater and drowned in it on Sunday evening. The incident occurred at Karkahalli, near Kala Muddana Doddi, in Maddur taluk.

K. Basavaraju, the victim, was playing with a ball in his house at 4 p.m. He was later found floating with the ball on Sunday night, the police said.

Initially, his parents and relatives tried to find Basavaraju in the surroundings of their residence. However, they could later see his body in the pit. Meanwhile, the local residents urged the district administration to book a criminal case against Bore Gowda, a farmer, for not covering the pit.

After conducting the post-mortem at the government hospital, the body was handed over to parents. A case has been registered at the local police station.
