Dinesh Kumar (24), a native of Rajasthan, who was apprehended for impersonation at the Common Entrance Test (CET) in Mysuru on Tuesday, had reportedly been promised Rs. 2 lakh to appear for the biology examination on behalf of a student besides being flown from Delhi to Bengaluru.
Deputy Director of Pre University Education, Mysuru, K.M. Puttu told The Hindu that Dinesh Kumar may be a part of a syndicate from coaching institutes in North India, which arranges impersonators to write entrance tests. “This person is a specialist in writing biology examination.
“He does not know who had engaged him. On his arrival, he was taken to a lodge from where a person escorted him to the examination centre”, Mr. Puttu said.
Dinesh Kumar was apprehended on Tuesday after invigilators at St. Philomena’s College suspected him to be an impersonator. When the photograph on the admission card was cross-checked with the rolls, it became apparent that he was impersonating. “On top of it, he was replying in Hindi, which was also a clear giveaway”, Mr. Puttu added.
Police said Syed A., a student from K.R. Nagar, for whom Dinesh was impersonating, is absconding. However, Commissioner of Mysuru City Police B. Dayananda said the impersonator could be part of a wider network.
Though the police have stumbled upon cases impersonation in COMED-K, such cases are not common in CET.
The CID in Bengaluru had launched a probe into a suspected seat-blocking scam by managements of professional colleges after the police arrested 28 students from North Indian States, who had appeared for COMED-K exams last year with dubious identities.
