Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has set October 15 as the deadline for cable television operators and Internet service providers to pay the stipulated fee for regularisation of the unauthorised cables tied to electricity poles.

CESC has threatened to pull out all the unauthorised television and Internet connection cables tied to electricity poles if the cable television and Internet service providers like BSNL fail to regularise them by paying the stipulated fee before the deadline.

The cable television operators and Internet service providers have to submit an application for the purpose by paying a fee of ₹1,000 besides paying one-time regularisation fee of ₹200 for each electricity pole they are using, CESC said in a statement here on Wednesday.

Television and Internet cables hanging precariously from the electricity poles are a safety hazard and can cause electricity mishaps and consequent damage. Hence, the cable television operators and Internet service providers have been asked to immediately contact the jurisdictional officials of CESC and provide them the necessary information regarding their cables tied to electricity poles.

After submitting the applications and paying the stipulated fee, they can obtain the necessary safety guidelines from CESC officials.

CESC said the corporation cannot be held responsible for disruption of cable television or Internet service if they remove the unauthorised cables after expiry of the October 15 deadline.
