Centum expands space facility


Centum Electronics Ltd. on Tuesday announced that it has added a 50-crore unit to its space electronics facility in the city to supply electronics hardware for ISRO. Centum has provided electronics sub-systems and modules for satellites, launchers and payloads to ISRO for the last 19 years. “We want to continue and grow in this area and have added a new floor of 20,000 sq. ft in space grade clean rooms,” said Vinod Chippalkatti, president of the space electronics business unit.

ISRO Chairman K. Sivan inaugurated the expanded space facility at Yelahanka.

A release quoted Centum's founder and CMD Apparao Mallavarapu as saying, “The investment in the Space, Defence and Aerospace facility is over ₹ 50 crore. It will create 250 jobs in addition to the 700 people already employed there." The facility has been expanded keeping in mind ISRO's growing number of missions, he said.

Centum Electronics, founded in 1994, reported a consolidated revenue of ₹ 1,000 crore for the year 2018-19.
