‘Centre is U-turn government’

Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its contradictory stands on various issues before and after assuming power at the Centre, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Union government was a “U-turn government”. He was speaking to presspersons at DAR police helipad here on Saturday.

“They had opposed GST and now want to implementat it. They talk something while in Opposition and something else when in power,” he said. “The Union government did nothing in the last three years,” he said.

He targeted BJP State unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa, referring to his demand for farm-loan waiver.

“Yeddyurappa is demanding waiver of loans from State financial institutions which constitutes just 22% of the loans. We have written to the Prime Minister requesting him to waive 50% of loans in commercial banks. But, there is no response from Centre,” he said. He pointed out that Mr. Yeddyurappa, when he was Chief Minister, had openly declared in Legislative Council floor that it was not possible for his government to waive farm loans.

When asked about new restrictions imposed by Union government on cattle trading and slaughter, the Chief Minister said that he would thoroughly examine and decide whether or not to implement it in the State.

“It is a State subject and we already have an Act on it.”

Congress Leader in Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge and Minister of State for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil were present.
