The police have installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at busy traffic junctions in the city to keep a check on violators of traffic rules.
Accidents
Accidents due to rash and negligent driving and violation of traffic rules have become common. Also, instances of traffic violations have gone up in the recent years due to the increasing number of vehicles, said Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil here on Tuesday.
Information
The CCTVs would keep a check on traffic offenders. The CCTVs are connected to the control room at the district police headquarters, and immediately inform the traffic police in case of a traffic offence.
Thus, from now on there will be a strict watch on the number of traffic violations registered in the city, traffic police sources said.
The installation of the CCTVs has helped bring down accidents and fetched Rs. 1,23,100 as fine in 1,231 cases of violations by two-wheelers in less than a month.
In the same period, 248 cases were booked against three-wheelers and Rs. 24,800 collected as fines from them.
Also, 787 cases were booked against four-wheelers, and fines totalling Rs. 79,100 collected.
