Karnataka, which has opposed the formation of the Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB) on sharing of Cauvery waters, will hold a meeting with senior advocate Fali S. Nariman on Monday to discuss a strategy and put forward the State’s position very strongly before the Supreme Court.

Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil will chair the meeting with the State’s legal team headed by Mr. Nariman at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi. Senior officials of the department and legal experts from the State will attend, sources in the Water Resources Department told The Hindu .

The Supreme Court on September 20 reserved its judgment on the appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against the final award of Cauvery Tribunal in 2007 on allocation of the river water to the three States.

The government is expected to explain to the State’s legal team the quantum of water released this year, area under cultivation during the kharif season in the Cauvery river basin, and various inputs for arguing the case in the Supreme Court.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the government was opposing the formation of CWMB and the legal team representing the State had been asked to argue strongly before the apex court.
