Chief Minister Siddaramaiah observed that caste system and religious discrimination have been hindering the goal of social justice and social balance in society.
Speaking at a function organised to mark the “pattadhikara” ceremony of Sri Amareshwar Devar Niranjanachar of Sri Advisiddeshwar Mutt in Kundargi on Sunday, he said the caste system had to be weakened so as to undo social imbalance. Despite the commendable struggles of Basaveshwara, the vachankars and saints who scripted dasa-sahitya against exploitation and caste system, modern and independent India was still dogged by the exploitative caste system and economic disparities. Both vachanas and dasa-sahitya have made significant contributions towards infusing s sense of equality, justice and brotherhood in society.
Mr. Siddaramaiah, who inaugurated the function by watering a plant, said religious mutts was necessary for strengthening the moral fabric of the society. Murughendra Swami of Somashakher Mutt, Munavalli was present.
