Following a court order, the Bidar police registered a case of forgery, breach of trust and use false certificates against MLA Ashok Kheny and three others on Friday.

The others charged by officers of the Bidar market police station are the MLA’s cousin Sanjay Kheny, Madhusudan. K, gram panchayat secretary and booth-level officer (BLO), and S. Allolimath, retired tahsildar and assistant returning officer (ARO).

Bengaluru-based activist T.J. Abraham had petitioned the additional civil and first class magistrate alleging that Mr. Kheny had lied about his nationality in the his election nomination papers. Mr. Kheny is an American citizen, and not Indian as claimed, according to Mr. Abraham. Mr Abraham contested from Bidar south constituency and lost against Ashok Kheny in the Assembly elections in 2013.

Mr. Abraham claimed that Mr. Kheny , in connivance with the BLO and ARO, had created a false certificate to prove that he was a permanent resident of Ranjol –Kheni village and enter his name into the electoral roll. More importantly, Ashok Kheny was not in India on the day the application for inclusion of his name into the electoral roll was filed before the district administration. Sanjay Kheny had signed on his behalf and committed forgery, Mr. Abraham said in his petition.
