BSNL employees launch three-day agitation

The Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations on Tuesday launched a three-day agitation in response to the nationwide strike called by various unions in support of their demands.

The employees of BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) began the ‘Save BSNL campaign’ by holding a dharna at the BSNL office in Jayalakshmipuram here.

Demands

They urged the government to fulfil their demands which includes fresh recruitments, transfer of properties held by the Department of Telecom to BSNL, immediate appointment of Board of Directors, Chairman and Managing Director.

The employees, who had gathered outside the BSNL office, raised the slogan ‘Save BSNL, save India’.

The other demands include government should bear the losses incurred in providing communication services to rural areas; abandon plans to merge Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and BSNL; sanction funds for improvement and expansion of BSNL network; permission for BSNL for providing 4G services; upgradation of optic fibre network; and BSNL services should be made mandatory in central and State public sector undertakings and institutions.
