Boy gives kidnappers the slip

November 19, 2011 12:02 pm | Updated 12:02 pm IST - MYSORE:

The attempt by a gang to kidnap a ninth class student failed after the boy bit one of them and escaped, near Chamarajanagar on Friday.

The incident took place near Hardanahalli, about 4 km from Chamarajanagar town. Abhishek, a student of St. Joseph's School, was going home on a bicycle when he was accosted by a gang who offered him chocolates. The boy refused to eat them, following which the gang members tried to push him into a van.

However, Abhishek bit the arm of one of them and ran towards the nearby village.

Taken aback by the boy's action, the gang fled in the van before the local residents reached the spot. The people staged a dharna and blocked the road for nearly an hour alleging that such incidents were on the rise in Chamarajanagar and that the police had failed to maintain law and order.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the people. Following this, security was tightened at all exit points of the State border.

The Chamarajanagar police have registered a case.
