The Belagavi District Kannada Organisations Action Committee has set the deadline of June 15 for the State government to reconstitute the allegedly defunct “Karnataka Maharashtra Border Dispute Special Legal Advisory Committee” with former Chief Justice of High Court, Kerala Nadoja V.S. Malimath as its new Chairman.
The Committee will otherwise, with the support of all religious mutts in the district and various State-level organisations, organise massive “satyagraha” at Bengaluru.
Taking a decision to this effect at a meeting here on Sunday, the Committee said three demands were being placed before the government – reconstitution of the advisory committee under Mr. Malimath, setting up a high-level committee under H.K. Patil, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and representation to the prominent Kannada leaders from Belagavi, Uttar Kannada, Vijayapura and Kalburgi districts in both the committees.
Anguish
The Action Committee members expressed anguish against the Small Scale Minister and District In-Charge Satish L. Jarkiholi, legislators and members of parliament from the District for being completely insensitive to very serious matter like boundary dispute, leaving the people of Belagavi and boundary areas of North Karnataka “orphaned”.
“If our District Minister, MLAs, MLCs and MPs choose to remain in the deep slumber and fail to respond at least now, we will be forced to give a call for boycott of all their public functions in the district after June 15,” said Action Committee President Ashok Chandargi.
He also criticised the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not implementing any of the promises made to the delegation from Belagavi eight months ago.
Former District Judge and veteran poet Jinadutt Desai, veteran Kannada leader Siddangouda Patil, Leader of the Opposition in Belagavi City Corporation Council Ramesh Sontakki, Prof.T.T. Murkatnal and other leaders were present.
