Body of drowned woman found

The body of the woman, who had drowned while crossing the Hemavati by coracle at Iguru in Sakleshpur taluk on August 29, was found in a decomposed state on Tuesday.

She drowned while returning home after her work in an estate as the coracle had capsized in the river. Three others in the coracle managed to reach the river bank. Sowmya, 35, from Belur taluk, had married Sanjay, of Chikkanduru in Sakleshpur, 11 years ago. She is survived by him and two sons.

Locals, police and expert divers made attempts to trace her body for several days.

Following the incident, H.K. Kumaraswamy, Sakleshpur MLA, had given the victim’s family a relief cheque of ₹5 lakh.
