BJP managed to wrest Mysore City Corporation’s Ward 15 when its candidate Seema Prasad was, on Monday, declared elected in the by-polls held on December 5.

Seema Prasad polled 2,295 votes against the Congress candidate Komala Ramesh, who secured 1,507 votes while JD(S) candidate Lakshmi Ganesh polled 1,060. Independent candidate Kempamma, secured 38 votes, said Returning Officer M.J. Roopa.

A total of 4,900 persons cast their votes during the polling held on Friday. “There were no invalid votes. The provision of NOTA (None Of The Above) was also not included as the polls were held by the State Election Commission”, Ms. Roopa added.

The by-polls had been necessitated by the resignation of Congress member Manjula Manasa, who had been appointed as Chairperson of Karnataka State Women’s Commission.

Seema Prasad’s election improves the BPJ’s tally in the 65-member Council and takes it to 15. Congress will have 21 members while the JD(S) will have 20. There are two SDPI members and seven independents.
