N.S. Nandiesha Reddy, former BJP MLA, will assume charge as chairman of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Thursday. In the previous Assembly elections, Mr. Reddy was defeated by disqualified MLA Byrathi Basavaraj in K.R. Puram Assembly constituency.
Mr. Reddy has been maintaining that he is a strong aspirant from the BJP in the forthcoming elections, thereby opposing Mr. Basavaraj’s possible candidature. The BJP government has given top posts in boards and corporations to several ticket aspirants for constituencies represented by the disqualified MLAs in an attempt to quell any possible rebellion.
Mr. Reddy told The Hindu that he is going by party directions. When asked about whether he is still an aspirant for BJP ticket, he said: “Yes I am an aspirant. The party will take a final decision and I will follow it. Nothing has been decided yet about the elections, there are cases pending before the court.”
