‘BJP politicising farmers’ problems’

Updated - September 23, 2015 05:44 am IST - DAVANGERE:

D. Basavaraj, chairman, Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in the State are trying to use the farmers’ issues to strengthen their party by conducting programmes in districts.

He told presspersons here on Tuesday that the State was reeling under drought and the farmers were committing suicide owing to crop loss and increasing debt.

In these circumstances, the BJP leaders should bring the issue to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appeal to him to frame policies that would stop farmers from committing suicide and protect their interests.

Allegation

Mr. Basavaraj also alleged that Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwar had not taken steps to develop the district.
