Bharatiya Janata Party will consider initiating legal action against scholar Shiv Visvanathan for his reported derogatory remarks against the Indian armed forces at the Sahitya Sambhrama literary conference here on Saturday, said Pralhad Joshi, MP.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Joshi said that he and his party strongly condemned the statements of Mr. Visvanathan where he had accused the Indian defence force personnel of indulging in rape.

“It is too much. Such allegations against the soldiers of the country are not tolerable. It will demoralise the armed forces. The police should take this matter seriously and file a suo motu case against Mr. Visvanathan. If the police fail to take suo motu action, the BJP would consider filing a case against him,” he said.

Further, Mr. Joshi condemned those who are making use of the platform of such literary conferences to express anti-national sentiments. Literature-related issues are expected to be discussed at such conferences. It is not correct that anyone misuses such platforms, he added.
