Legislative Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar on Friday told the Assembly that Congress MLA for Kagawad Shrimant B. Patil has informed him that the Opposition BJP has not kidnapped him.

In a letter to the Speaker, Mr. Shrimant Patil cited health reasons for his absence and said he was not attending the ongoing legislature session. Reading out the letter written by Mr. Shrimant Patil, the Speaker said he was admitted to the hospital owing to chest pain.

Video released

Meanwhile, the MLA has released a video in which he is heard as saying he could not attend the Assembly session as he was not well. He is seen saying that he had to go to Chennai on an urgent personal matter and he fell sick there. These symptoms, he suspected, were of a heart ailment, and his son and assistants rushed him to a hospital in Mumbai. He said nobody took him from Bengaluru to Chennai.

Home Minister M.B. Patil on Friday told the Speaker that the Mumbai police had refused to let a police team from Karnataka, who went there at his (Speaker’s ) behest, to enter the hospital where Mr. Shrimant Patil has been admitted.

The Minister said the MLA had even refused to meet the delegation.
