Annoyed with the way the spar between him and Leader of the Opposition K.S. Eshwarappa was damaging the image of the party, State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa has decided to maintain silence and refrain from commenting on issues concerning Mr. Eshwarappa. This is what Mr. Yeddyurappa made clear when presspersons met him in Kalaburagi on Tuesday.

Media persons were in for a big surprise when Mr. Yeddyurappa declined to have an interaction with them when he arrived in the city to take part in a couple of functions. “I have decided not to speak out for the time being,” was the curt reply given by Mr. Yeddyurappa when presspersons approached him.

However, Mr. Yeddyurappa, did not disappoint the presspersons, as an hour later, he turned up to address the media.

Asked whether the party high command had issued a gag order to him, Mr. Yeddyurappa replied that the decision was his own.

“The party high command is observing the statements being issued by different leaders and will initiate appropriate action. And, for the time being, I have decided not to comment on such developments,” he added.

Asked whether he would be meeting BJP national president Amit Shah to seek action against Mr. Eshwarappa, Mr. Yeddyurappa replied that the question did not arise now. “The party’s national general secretary Muralidhar Rao has held consultations and apprised Mr. Shah of the developments. Based on that, further action will be initiated,” he stated.

Mr. Yeddyurappa refused to make any comments when his attention was drawn to the statement by Mr. Eshwarappa that he would continue to associate with the activities of the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade.

Executive meeting

Setting at rest the uncertainty over the party’s State Executive Committee meeting scheduled to be held in Mysuru on May 6 and 7, Mr. Yeddyurappa clarified that the event would be held as scheduled.

“The meeting would dwell upon various issues concerning farmers such as drought, farm loan waiver. Moreover, a resolution on the ongoing political developments would be passed,” he added.
