Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of indulging in horse-trading to poach Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal on Monday alleged that the BJP does not believe in dignity of parliamentary democracy.

Addressing mediapersons after a marathon discussion with senior leaders and Ministers at the breakfast meeting hosted by Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Mr. Venugopal said: “We have been seeing the anti-democratic attitude of the BJP for the last five years. After this election victory, it has become all the more. They have done it in Telangana and West Bengal. They want to destabilise the government and get Rajya Sabha majority as well.”

Saying that the government will survive despite all attempts by the BJP, he said: “We strongly believe in the strength of the party in Karnataka and we are confident this government will continue. This will be the sixth failed attempt by the BJP in destabilising the government.”

Coalition government’s coordination committee chairman and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who alleged that the BJP has been continuously trying to destabilise the government, said the State BJP unit is backed by the central unit. “They are misusing central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax and other organisations to get our MLAs into their fold,” he said.

Mr. Siddaramaiah appealed to the MLAs to return and said the Cabinet would be reconstituted keeping in mind social justice. He said: “Human beings have weaknesses. But a political party should not exploit a person’s weakness.”

“The BJP does not believe in parliamentary democracy. However, we will fight it out legally and politically. We appeal to the MLAs, who have fallen prey to the BJP’s tactics, to come for a dialogue. We are confident that those who are disciplined and loyal will come back to us. We will take all legal remedies and measures against the BJP,” he added.
