Police have detained around 20 BJP activists participating in the Mangaluru Chalo bike rally, organised in response to the call given by the BJP Yuva Morcha, in Ballari city on Tuesday.

Over 50 activists, led by G. Somashekar Reddy and other leaders arrived on their bikes to Municipal School grounds, from where the bike rally was to commence.

The police, who were present in large number, asked the activists not to take out the rally as no permission had been given in this regard. When the activists tried to go ahead with their rally, police detained them and took around 20 persons into custody. They were, however, released later.
