The First Responder Bike Ambulance as part of the 108 Ambulance Service was launched by the Minister for Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Qamarul Islam in Kalaburagi on Sunday.

Mr. Islam said the bike ambulance would function as a first response unit for patients residing in localities where the regular ambulance cannot reach easily. It will be operated by a trained staff nurse who will reach the spot and provide necessary first aid to the patient, before the regular ambulances reach out and evacuate the patient to the hospital.

The district would get more such ambulances depending on the requirement, Mr. Islam added.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Mohammad Zakir Ansari said that the first aid kit fixed with the modified bike ambulance contains digital BP equipment, glucometer, portable oxygen cylinder and life-saving drugs. The bike ambulance service would be available round-the-clock .Those calling 108 should ask for the bike ambulance service if they feel regular ambulance find it difficult to reach the spot, he said.
