The former Union Minister and MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has said that considering their work and reputation, it would be better to deny party ticket to some of the MPs from the State in the next Lok Sabha election.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Yatnal said that mistakes committed during allotment of party ticket to candidates in the recently concluded Assembly elections in five States were the reason for the BJP’s debacle.

He, however, said that the results would not have any impact on the party’s prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi would easily get another term,” he said.

But the former Union Minister indicated that if the sitting MPs from the State were given party ticket, their chances of getting defeated were more as they had failed to meet the aspirations of the voters in their respective constituencies.

Regarding the election of Chairman of Legislative Council, Mr. Yatnal said that a senior leader like Basavaraj Horatti was an acceptable candidate to all parties for the post. However, Mr. Horatti and another senior leader S.R. Patil of the Congress had been neglected by the Janata Dal(S) and the Congress, he said.
