BEML Ltd has commissioned a 9-MW second windmill park at Dammur in Bagalkot.

The windmill will generate electricity to BEML's manufacturing units at Bengaluru, Mysuru and the Kolar Gold Fields.

A 9-MW third wind energy unit is planned at Bagalkot, an official said. The total investment in the green energy plan was not given.

Defence and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley dedicated the project by a video conference from Delhi, the defence PSU said on Thursday.

The new unit and a 5-MW unit installed at Kappatagudda in Gadag in 2007 will meet almost 68% of the company's energy needs. “BEML has set itself a goal of using 100% renewable energy and contributing towards the National Green Energy Mission of [creating] 175 GW of green energy by 2022,” a release said.
