Senior Congress leader Veeranna Mathikatti, MLC, has said that Opposition parties in both houses of the legislature should cooperate to ensure meaningful debates on issues concerning the people at the legislature session scheduled to begin in Belagavi on Monday.

He told presspersons here on Sunday that important issues related to agriculture, irrigation and drinking water supply concerning the people of north Karnataka needed to be discussed on the floor of the House.

Requested

“I have requested Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar, Janata Dal (Secular) leader Basavaraj Horatti and the Ministers to ensure that there was no commotion or walkout and all issues are deliberated upon seriously to find out solutions. These leaders have agreed to my pleas,” he said.

Mr. Mathikatti said the government was committed to protecting the interests of sugarcane growers. It had initiated action against sugarcane mills which did not pay the incentive of Rs. 200 per tonne to the growers. The council of Ministers was likely to be expanded after the Ashada month. It was left to the Chief Minister to include or drop anyone from the Ministry, he added.
