Belagavi session duration may get extended

In the wake of demand by the Opposition parties on holding the proposed legislature session at Belagavi for more number of days than just ten, the State government is likely to reconsider the issue.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hinted about the same while speaking to presspersons at Hubballi Airport. The Chief Minister arrived in Hubballi to take part in various programmes in Dharwad and Haveri districts.

When asked about the demand, the Chief Minister initially sought to know why the opposition leader Jagadish Shettar and other BJP leaders had not done it when they were in power. “If they say they were not able to do it and want us to look into it, we will consider it. Let us see,” he said.

Sugarcane dues

Reiterating that the State government was committed to protecting the interests of sugarcane farmers, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that now that the sugar crushing season had ended, the State government would take steps to recover the dues of farmers.

“We have already served recovery notices to the sugar mills. If they don’t pay the farmers, we will take steps to auction the sugar produced and pay the farmers,” he said.

CID probe

To another query, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that as police officials were reportedly involved in the cricket betting racket exposed by a news channel in Hubballi, the case had been handed over to the CID for inquiry. “Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” he said.
