The Almatti dam area, which already has lavish parks, a rock garden and a musical fountain, will soon have recreation centres, amusement parks and also a three-star hotel for tourists.

To popularise the area as a tourist destination, Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL) has decided to involve private agencies to build and maintain these facilities.

The dam site will also be handed over to private agencies for maintenance as KBJNL is finding difficulty in maintaining the parks.

According to sources, KBJNL, which has the responsibility of providing irrigation facility, has no time to do the job of upkeep of the parks and the gardens.

As per a tentative plan, the new facilities include a star-hotel, dormitory, water sports/adventure activities centre, amusement park, theme park, museum and a cultural centre.

The proposal has been mooted where a private agency which gets the tender, will have to build these facilities and maintain it for next thirty years. The maintenance of the existing parks would also be the responsibility of the tendered agency.

Besides these facilities, a proposal has also been planned to provide ferry for the visitors in the backwaters of dam and the Krishna between the dam and the Kudalasangam, a pilgrimage.

Sources said that the project is still at the nascent stage.
