A bear on Friday attacked four men and a woman in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk in Tumkur district. Three men were attacked in Kallahalli village in the morning.

The bear entered a house in Baladevarahatti in the taluk in the afternoon and attacked a couple, Krishnappa and Doddamma, who were in the house. The couple ran out of the house and locked the door trapping the bear inside the house.

The couple are receiving treatment at the Chikkanayakanahalli taluk hospital.

Assistant Conservator of Forests Nagendra Rao B.S. told The Hindu that “a team of eight members managed to capture the bear and put it in a cage before a team of experts and veterinary doctors from Bannerghatta National Park arrived at Baladevarahatti on Friday at around 7.15 p.m.” He said that the cage was placed at the entrance of the door of the house. When the door was opened, the bear came out of the door and entered the cage.
