‘Basaveshwara’s ideals relevant for all times’

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Bidar:

Basaveshwara’s ideals are relevant for all times, Aravind Jatti, president, Basava Samiti, said here on Friday. He was speaking at a seminar at BVB college.

Mr. Jatti said that Basaveshwara’s ideas of Kayaka and Dasoha would solve most problems of today’s society. “Kayaka is dignity of labour where everyone believes that work is worship and Dasoha is giving back to the society to ensure distribution of wealth,” he said. The spirit of vachanas could be found in the Indian Constitution too, Mr. Jatti said.

He congratulated the Union government for declaring the Labour Day motto as ‘Shramameva Jayate’ as it was in line with Basaveshwara’s philosophy.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to be a good administrator. His good intentions are being revealed through programmes such as Swachch Bharat,” Mr. Jatti said.

However, such programmes should not end up as “photo opportunities” for politicians, he added.
