The district administration will make elaborate arrangements to sensitise voters, especially first-time voters, on using the electronic voting machine (EVM), in different places of the district, Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa has said.

After inaugurating the Voters’ Information Centre on the Mini-Vidhana Soudha premises here on Tuesday, Ms. Deepa said officials concerned would also hold the mock voting at various locations to educate people on using the EVMs. Models of the EVM and the ballot papers were on display at the taluk office for the benefit of voters. Voters’ information centres will also be set up the airport, bus stations, colleges, and others such places in the district, she said.

This apart, voters can avail themselves of information related to the EVM, electoral rolls, including, deletion or transfer of names from the electoral rolls and other related matters from the voters’ information centres set up at taluk offices.

Arrangements have been made for submitting applications for these purposes either manually at the taluk office or online.

The district will have 1,634 polling booths and voters have been requested to verify the electoral rolls and contact the taluk office in case their names have been deleted. The Election Commission of India has launched a helpline — 1950 — where voters can get issues pertaining to EPIC, voters’ list, violation of the model code of conduct, and election malpractice, resolved. This helpline will be working round the clock, said added.

On this occasion, mock voting was held, wherein Ms. Deepa showed some of the first-time voters how to use the EVM. She also told the students about the importance of voting and called upon voters, particularly the youth not to miss exercising their franchise for any reason. Zilla panchayat CEO B.C. Sateesh, and tahasildar Shashidhar Madyal were present.
