An autorickshaw driver was murdered for Rs. 50 at Govindanagar in Tumakuru city on Saturday. The police have arrested the accused Anil, a welder.

The police said that the deceased was identified as Kumar (32) of Govindanagar. According to the police, Renukamma, wife of the deceased, ran a shop attached to their house at Govindanagar. Anil had gone to the shop to buy cigarettes around 11.00 p.m. on Friday.

After buying the cigarettes he refused to pay for it and demanded that Renukamma give him Rs. 50, saying he had given her the amount a few days back. Kumar came out of the house after hearing the arguments and quarrelled with Anil. In a fit of anger, Anil, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, stabbed Kumar in his stomach and ran away.

With the help of neighbours, Renukamma took her husband to the district government hospital where he died around 2.00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tilak Park police have registered a case.
