Association to distribute autorickshaws, other facilities to the needy on Jan 16

The Muslim Welfare Association will be providing financial and other facilities to financially backward members of the community here on January 16.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mohammed Maula, former President of the Association, said that the Association had been working for the welfare of the financially backward members of the community for the last 32 years.

Accordingly this year, the Association will be providing autorickshaws to three Muslim autorickshaw drivers from the money collected under the Zakat fund. Monthly income will be provided to two persons living at Pragati Nagar in Manipal, who have no source of income and also suffer from health ailments.

The Association will be constructing a house for Nabisa, a poor woman from Mallar village near Kaup at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.5 lakh. As many as six religious schools imparting education to poor students would be given financial assistance this year.

All these facilities would be distributed to the beneficiaries at a function to be held at the Jamia Masjid here at 6.30 p.m. on Friday.

Mohammed Kunhi, Supervisor of Shanti Prakashana, Mangaluru, Abdul Jaleel Saheb, Managing Director of Halima Sabju auditorium, and T.S. Budan Basha, President of Jamia Masjid, would be the chief guests at the function, he said.

Mr. Maula said that the Association was already providing 13 widows and senior citizens with a pension of Rs. 500 per month. Every year, the Association was providing fruits and biscuit packets to the inmates of District Hospital, District Maternity Hospital and Bal Bhavan a day before the Bakrid festival.

As many as 15 girl students were receiving training in tailoring and embroidery at the office of the Association here. Financial help was being given to poor members of the community suffering from health problems and to construct houses.

Every year, the Association organised a voluntary blood donation camp. A blood donation camp would be held this year also on February 19, Mr. Maula said.
