Businessman-turned-RTI activist Chand Pasha Gour was assaulted allegedly by followers of HDMC councillor Prakash Kyarakatti in Hubballi on Monday.

Mr. Gour, who sustained head injuries, was admitted to KIMS Hospital after being treated initially at a private hospital located close to where he was attacked. The assault took place at the junction close to the Head Post Office in Hubballi, where there was heavy vehicular movement.

Mr. Gour, who spoke to press persons after initial treatment at the private hospital, alleged that the followers of councillor Prakash Kyarakatti and friends of his son Srinivas Kyarakatti waylaid his motorcycle and attacked him with hockey sticks and weapons. After the assaulters fled from the scene, a profusely bleeding Mr. Gour was rushed to the nearby Shivakrupa Hospital where he was treated for the head injury.

The doctors said he seemed to be out of danger but further tests were needed to ascertain any internal damage. Assistant Commissioner of Police S.B. Chabbi recorded Mr. Gour’s statement. “We will file the first information report and then take up further steps based on the investigation,” he said.
