Associated Social Health Activists (ASHAs), announced the withdrawal of their strike following assurances from the State government to concede to their demands immediately.

ASHAs, under the banner of Karnataka State ASHA Workers Association, had gone on a strike on October 5 to mount pressure on the State government.

They were seeking release of the honorarium given to them by the Union government and the matching grants to be given by the State.

On Monday, a large number of ASHAs staged a demonstration in front of the District Hospital and submitted a memorandum to Ramesh Babu, District Health Officer.

Mr. Babu told them the State government had sent communication about releasing the honorarium, which was due for the year 2014-15. He also assured them that from next month onwards the honorarium would be credited to their account online regularly. Announcing the withdrawal of strike, Somashekar Yadgiri and D. Shanta, Association president and secretary, thanked Chief Minister Siddarmaiah and Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader for conceding to their demands.
