ASHA workers stage dharna

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - BALLARI:

Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers from across the districtstaged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday to press for their demands. The dharna was part of an ongoing indefinite strike launched by ASHA workers from May 1.

Some of their demands include the release of funds by the State government to clear their dues, matching incentives and facilities.

D. Nagalakshmi, general secretary of the State unit of the Karnataka ASHA Workers Union, said that the State government had not released the matching grants (on par with the incentives given by the Union government) and cleared the dues, pending for over a year in most of the districts. She criticised the State government for not making payments every month and for not taking any steps for distributing mobile phones with sim cards, unforms (three saris a year) and covering them under the social security and Vajpayee Arogyashri Health Insurance scheme.
