May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - BELAGAVI:

As part of their State-wide work strike launched on International Labour Day, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in support of its various demands here on Saturday.

The ASHA workers, under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Samyukt Asha Karyakartara Sangha (affiliated to AIUTUC) took out a procession before staging the demonstration and submitted a set of 11 demands to the government, which included release of matching incentives from the State government, wage arrears, uniforms and other social security benefits.

Order

The Sangha members said the State government on October 28, 2013, had issued an order to provide matching incentives along with the central incentive to ASHA workers.

However, many districts did not receive the matching incentive from the State government for the past 12 to 18 months.

The government was not showing the will to provide the much-needed relief to thousands of ASHA workers, they said.
