Accredited Social and Health Activists (ASHA) have called off their 11-day strike as the State government agreed to fulfil most of their demands. They will return to work on Thursday.

Sandhya P.S., president of the Mysore unit of the Karnataka State Samyukta ASHA Workers’ Association, affiliated to the All-India United Trade Union Centre, told The Hindu that the government agreed to give a matching grant of Rs. 1,200 per month for a year to all health activists and it agreed to pay all other arrears in installments by June 15.

The incentive due to thousands of health activists in many districts would be paid by July-end, she said adding that the government agreed to give an honorarium to them through an online system from August.

The government has also agreed to to provide four saris to each health activist in a year, as well as a mobile phone SIM card, Ms. Sandhya said. .
