Applications invited for Young Scientist Award

The Karnataka Rajya Vigyan Parishat has invited applications from students in Classes 9th to II PU for the Young Scientist Award, 2015-16. A cash prize of Rs 20,000, a commendation certificate and a shawl will be given to three meritorious students in recognition of their achievements.

Girish Kadlewad, treasurer of the parishat, told presspersons on Sunday that the aim was to build scientific temper among students. The students can collect the applications from the offices of the Department of Public Instruction or the Department of Pre-University Education or through the website, www.krvp.org. The applications along with the details of achievements should be submitted to the Deputy Directors of Public Instruction in districts by December 8.

He said that all the applicants would have to attend a written and oral examination at the district and State levels. Three students who would emerge toppers at the district-level would qualify for the State-level examination. Out of the total 100 marks, 40 would be given based on their performance in the written examination and 40 for oral examination and the remaining would be given based on their achievements. Mr. Kadlewad said that the three toppers in the district-level competition would be provided a cash prize of Rs. 2,000, Rs 1,000 and Rs. 5,00, in that order. The district-level competition would be held on December 15 and the State-level competition would be held in January next year.
