AP bus strike: residents of Ballari, Tumakuru also feel the heat

May 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - BALLARI:

Passengers shuttling between Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh and Ballari have been bearing the brunt of the ongoing strike by employees of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).

APSRTC buses have been off the road for the fifth day on Tuesday. The public, especially patients from Anantapur district, find it hard to reach Ballari to get medical care.

The plight continues despite the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) plying around 30 buses in addition to the regular schedules.

P.G. Partha Sarathy, divisional controller Ballari division, told The Hindu that 30 more buses were plying between Ballari and several places in Anantapur district, in addition to the regular scheduled buses.

Tumakuru affected

Tumakuru Staff Correspondent reports:

The bus strike has also affected Pavagada in Tumakuru district. Farmers of Pavagada, who go to Hindupur in Anantpur district to sell their produce, have been affected as very few private buses ply there. Anjanappa, a farmer from Kodamadagu village, said, “The buses are crowded owing to the APSRTC strike. We are finding it difficult to transport our agricultural products.”
