The action committee to press for the hastening of the introduction of the anti-superstition Bill has urged the State government to come out with a law to check corruption at the earliest.
The committee members took out a procession and held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday. The committee has expressed concern over growing intolerance in the name of superstitious beliefs and has urged the Chief Mbinister to take the process of passing the draft bill to a logical end. The State Government had initiated some steps in this direction a few months ago. It had drafted a bill with the help of experts from the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Hubballi. But the process in the direction of placing it before the House was abruptly discontinued due to opposition from certain quarters.
The government should revive this process and see that the anti-superstition Bill becomes a reality in the State. It should form a panel of legal experts to draft the bill and invite public opinion to make it more effective. It should hold talks with religious leaders, political parties and mediapersons to evolve a consensus on the contents of the Bill, the members said.
