Another villager injured in elephant-attack

An elephant separated from its herd attacked a 52-year-old person at Kondapura in Tumakuru taluk in the district on Saturday night.

Assistant Conservator of Forests, D. Devaraj told The Hindu, “Jayaramaiah of Kondapura village was attacked by the elephant which had pierced its tusk in Jayaramaiah’s thigh around 11.30 p.m.”

He said the injured was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru and said to be out of danger.

He said despite several warnings given to people from nearby villages to not come out of their houses between 6.00 p.m. and 6.30 a.m., the villagers come out and the tusker out of fear, attacks people in its way.

The same tusker had attacked a woman, Kalpana (38) who is receiving treatment in a private hospital in Bengaluru, trampled a cow and buffalo on January 14 in Tumakuru taluk in the district.
